Above-average rainfall is expected over the northern ASEAN region for week 3, in particular over the coastal areas. For the southern ASEAN region, rainfall is forecast to be below-average.

A return to normal conditions is expected in the last week of August. This could lead to a gradual increase in shower activities in the southern ASEAN region.

Although there is no significant MJO signal currently present, some models forecast MJO to re-emerge towards the end of the month. This could bring a return to wetter conditions to the central/northern ASEAN region.

Warm temperatures are expected over parts of the southern ASEAN region in particular over inland areas (as shown in the image on the right). This is in line with the dry conditions forecast for this region.
